1 reported the results of this investigation in the May 1999 Subsurface
p g Y
Investigation and Groundwater Monitoring Report
Vent well VW-1 was installed and an additional air-sparging and SVE pilot
test was performed in June 2000 The test was performed In accordance with
the May 15, 2000 Pilot Testing Work Plan The pilot test results Indicated
that this technology would be an effective method of treating petroleum-
hydrocarbon Impact at the site Operation of a frill-scale air-sparging and
' SVE remediation system was Initiated on April 25, 2001 PSC Installed a new
air-sparging well (SP-A) on March 14, 2002 upon determining that air
infection at well SP-1 was not adequately remediating the petroleum
' hydrocarbon impact in groundwater
In December 2002, the remediation system was disengaged, since its
effectiveness to remove contaminants became limited Post-remediation
monitoring was performed to evaluate the concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons In groundwater and the stability of the plume The February
2003 groundwater sample from MW-1 indicated an increase in petroleum
concentrations However, concentrations remained relatively stable in
' groundwater samples collected from other wells in the area of impact
PSC submitted the April 14, 2003 Remedial Action Completion Report to
SJCEHD The report presented a Site Conceptual Model, which characterized
the release, subsurface conditions, and associated risks to potential receptors
PSC determined that potential routes of exposure were improbable or
incomplete and requested that SJCEHD consider granting closure of the
environmental case SJCEHD requested that additional site investigation be
performed in their January 9, 2004 response letter The February 20, 2004
' Subsurface Investigation Work Plan, which proposed details of site work, was
submitted to and approved by SJCEHD
In June 2004, PSC performed the additional subsurface investigation
Continuous soil lithology, from ground surface to a depth of 100 feet was
evaluated at boring CPT-A using an electronic cone penetrometer testing
1 (CPT) system Seven CPT borings (CPT-A, -B, -C, -D, -E, -F, and -G) were
drilled or advanced in the vicinity of the former gasoline USTs Soil samples
were collected from the borings and were submitted for the analysis The
1 analytical parameter list included benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes
(BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), the oxygenate
analytes of tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE),
1 di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), and tertiary amyl
methyl ether (TAME), and the fuel additives 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA)
and ethylene dsbronude (EDB), using test method SW-846 / 8021/8260B
Groundwater samples were collected at three of the boring locations and were
submitted for the same analytical parameters The CPT soil investigation
indicated that the residual petroleum-hydrocarbon impact that remained after
3
Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
4th Quarter-November 2005
Prepared for SARA I.EE BAKERY GROUP,INC Prepared by PSC Environmental services
investigative and Quarterly Report 14th Quarterly Report 112005 doc February 24 2006
