1
of this report The configuration of the proposed remediation system is
shown on Sheet 3 A process flow schematic is provided on Sheet 6
2.3 Air Sparging
The remediation system will utilize six sparge wells including existing
sparge well SP-1 and 5 new sparge wells (SP-2 through SP-6) that will be
installed The sparge wells will be connected to two air compressors in the
equipment trailer The air sparge wells will be installed using hollow stem
auger drilling techniques and constructed according to the Piping and Well
Sections (Sheet 5) Well locations have been selected to effectively
remediate groundwater and allow for vapor control by venting wells The
new sparge wells will be set at a depth of approximately 75 feet BGS with
the bottom five feet of the well constructed of 0 020-inch polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) slot screen
2.3.1 Sparging Compressors
Two sparging compressors will be manifolded together, each with the
capacity to provide sufficient air to operate the entire sparging system The
compressors will be controlled by a timer so that sparging into the aquifer
can be pulsed, if desired An alternator in the control panel will also be
used to switch the lead/lag compressor, if desired A pulsed sparge effect
has been shown at some sites to increase the effectiveness of the
groundwater remediation by minimizing channeling Alternating the
lead/lag compressor will reduce wear on one compressor
The sparge compressors will each be capable of producing 36 cfm at 35
psig Filters will remove oil and particulates from the air being infected
into the sparge wells The compressors, control valves, flow meters, and
pressure gauges will be mounted in the enclosed equipment trailer
2.4 Soil Venting
The venting system will consist of four existing wells (MW-1, MW-3,
MW-4, and MW-7) connected to two venting blowers located in the
' enclosed equipment trailer The venting wells each have a minimum of 25
to 30 feet of screen in the vadose zone
Final Remediation Plan
Prepared for RAINBo BAKING COMPANY 4 Prepared by Burlington Environmental Inc
E 11213821125997UESUVAL DOC 2!1195
