Selected soil samples collected at various depths will be retained in the <br />sample liners (the sample liner containing the desired sample will be <br />cut into a 12 -inch or shorter length with a clean knife blade or clean <br />hacksaw blade_), and the ends eovtred with TeflondD sheers and plastic <br />end caps. <br />3.2 Borehole Abandonment Procedures <br />After the soil samples have been collected from each soil boring, the boreholes will be <br />grouted to the surface using neat cement. The cement will be pumped or tremied into the <br />borehole. <br />Co GROUNDWATER SAMPLING <br />4,1 Groundwater Grab Sampling Procedures <br />Groundwater grab samples will be collected from boreholes by lowering I -inch diameter <br />PVC screen and casing to the total depth of the borehole. The proper lengths of screen <br />and blank casing will be cleaned and threaded above the ground prior to lowering inside <br />the borehole- The well screen will be 5 to 10 It in length and will extend across the water <br />table surface. The bottom of the screened interval will be fitted with an end plug. <br />Samples of the groundwater will be collected from each temporary well using a Teflon* <br />bailer or a pump wbich has be washed in a solution of Atconox or non -phosphate TSP <br />followed by several rinses with potable water, or by using a disposable bailer which was <br />removed from its factory protective cover immediately prior to sampling the well. The <br />groundwater samples collected from each well will be decanted into the appropriate <br />sample containers for each analyte. Care will be taken when transferring the water from <br />a bailer to the sample containers to avoid turbulence and all VOA vials will be filled <br />above the top of the opening to form a positive meniscus so that no headspace will be. <br />present. <br />4.2 Monitoring Well Sampling Procedures <br />Each groundwater monitoring well will be purged using a low flow peristaltic pump prior <br />to collecting groundwater samples for chemical analyses- During the purging process, <br />approximately three well volumes of groundwater will be discharged from the well using <br />either a pump or bailer. The well will be properly purged when the physical parameters <br />of the groundwater (Le, pH, temperature, and conductivity) have stabilised If the well <br />is evacuated prior to the removal of three to fine well volumes, a sample of the <br />groundwater will be collected when the water level is sufficient to provide a <br />representative sample (i.e., retum to 80% or more of the static water level). <br />Samples of the groundwater will be collected from each monitoring wel I [sing the <br />peristaltic pump for inorganic and non-volatile organic canstiments and a bailer for the <br />volatile organic constituents. The bailer used for sampling may be a Teflon' or stainless <br />steel bailer which has been washed in a solution of Alconox followed by several rinses <br />with potable or deioniz d water, or a disposable bailer which was removed from its <br />factory protective cover immediately prior to sampling the well_ The groundwater <br />samples collected from each well will be decanted into the appropriate sample containers <br />
