by Safety Kleen, 5050 Salida Blvd. , Salida, California,
95368. Newark generates a hazardous waste from the asbestos
removal project that has been ongoing. Currently,
asbestos is removed only when an area necessitates it due
to damage. In 1990, 1. 58 tons were disposed of with one
load being transported to Pen-Rob, P.O. Box 132 , Joseph
City, Arizona, 86032, and the remaining to Anderson Solid
Waste (Anderson) , 18703 Cambridge Road, Anderson,
California, 96007. In September of 1990, a carrier delivered a polymer
called Acrylamide Dimethyl Ethyl Methacrylate into the
wrong tank. This caused mixing with the product already
contained in the tank. As a result the blend had to be
hauled as hazardous. The total amount of this accidental
waste was 34 . 28 tons, and is not anticipated to be
generated again. Approximately 3 . 2 tons were hauled to
Solvent Services, 1021 Berryessa Road, San Jose,
California, 95133, and the remaining amount to US
Pollution Control, Inc. , Clive, Utah.
8 . Every 10-12 years the water softening resins are changed.
In the production process, the resins pick up cations
from the water. Upon analysis the resins show trace
amounts of heavy metals. The waste manifested as
chromium in March of 1991 was hauled to Kiesel. The
total amount generated was 3 . 3 tons.
9 . In March of 1992, a product was purchased to utilize in
the cleaning of the felt used on the pit conveyer.
Newark ended up not being able to use this product, and
it was manifested off as xylene. The total amount was
. 12 tons, and it was hauled to Summit.
10. In 1992 Newark destroyed an old aboveground tank holding
latex. This waste was manifested as glue and wood.
