Identification of Waste Streams
Waste generating processes
Waste #1 Petroleum Naphtha
This solvent is used in several locations at our facility for cleaning and
degreasing. Safety Kleen Corporation removes the used solvent and
replaces it with new on a routine basis. Safety Kleen recycles the
so Ive nt.
Waste #2 Rejects
This wastestream consists of material that cannot be used to make paper.
It includes material that is rejected in any of the initial papermaking steps
including engine blocks, wire, staples, plastics, adhesives, etc. This
waste is compacted and sent offsite to an approved TSDF for fuel
blending or landfilling (class 3). This wastestream is non hazardous.
Waste #3 Oil and Grease
{ The majority of this wastestream comes as a result of the drying sections
on the paper machines. Oil and grease are continually discharged from
this equipment due to the abundance of lubrication needed to keep the
bearings functioning properly. The oil, grease and dirt from the
surrounding area is scooped up and drummed. The wastestream is
manifested and hauled to an approved hazardous waste facility for
landfilling. This wastestream also includes absorbent and spill clean up
material.
Waste #4 Used Oil Mixture
This waste is generated in the maintenance/truck shop from changing
truck oil and gear box maintenance. The oil is picked up on a routine
basis by Ramos Environmental and recycled offsite.
Waste #5 Asbestos Building Material
The building which Newark Sierra occupies was built in 1917. There are
several areas throughout the facility which contain asbestos. Asbestos
remediation has been an on going process since 1989 and is expected
to continue indefinitely until all of the asbestos of concern is removed.
The asbestos removal is being performed by an a certified and qualified
outside contractor The waste asbestos is manifested and sent to an
approved disposal facility for landfilling.
Newark Sierra Corporation 800 W. Church St. CDMS
Stockton, CA Plan 9
