be placed in a plastic bag and tagged as a damaged battery. Identified and isolated batteries are
then shipped within the same container with the other batteries for shipment. Battery handling
and storage requirements were reviewed with applicable staff and reminded of the requirement to
ensure that damaged batteries are managed properly. The damaged battery observed during the
inspection was placed in a proper container, labeled, and shipped off with the rest of the batteries
on April 4,2016.
Used Oil Filter Management-#608
At the time of the inspection, the contracted waste hauler for drained oil filters was delayed in
picking up the full drums of oil filters observed. The containers were then overfilled and the lids
could not be closed. To prevent this from reoccurring, the pick-up frequency for drained oil
filters has been increased to be picked up once every other week instead of on an on-call basis.
This will ensure that drums do not become overfilled and lids can remain properly closed at all
times (See Attachment 1, Photo #6). In addition, spare drums have been ordered in the case that
designated waste containers become overfilled. Applicable Site staff has been re-trained on the
requirement that all waste containers must remain closed at all times and that waste containers
should never be overfilled. Additionally, any new containers of oil filters must be properly
labeled.
We hope that these responses and the actions taken to correct the findings noted during your
inspection meet the requirements of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department.
Should you have any questions regarding this submittal, please contact me at 916-204-7625.
