The 12,750 Ibs of waste from this process (shown in the table, above) was <br />reclassified as CWC 223 in 2010. <br />7.2 Site 300 Oil Contaminated Water <br />This waste stream is from oil contaminated water and rags. In 2010, 5,719 lbs were <br />generated at Site 300, compared to 18,376 IN in 2006. In 2006, oil -contaminated water <br />and rags collected from various locations at Site 300, including maintenance of the Flash <br />X -Ray tank process, constituted one of LLNL's major waste streams. The aqueous <br />portion, which comprised most of this waste stream, has been significantly reduced <br />through a number of methods. Different process and constituent waste streams are now <br />segregated and handled separately, facilitating identification of some nonhazardous waste <br />streams which were then re -characterized. Another nonhazardous waste stream, <br />generated from photo processing developer has been almost entirely eliminated due to <br />use of an evaporation unit. In addition, Site 300 plans to move from chemical -based <br />photo processing to digital photography within the next four to five years. <br />The quantity of this waste stream is below the SB 14 reporting requirements. <br />The remaining 9,197 lbs of waste included in the 2007 SB 14 report total for CWC 223 <br />was from small, unrelated processes and is not addressed in the 2011 SB 14 Plan. <br />Note that the 2010 CWC 223 waste volume at Site 300 is below the SB 14 reporting <br />threshold. <br />September 1, 2011 SB 14 Report <br />23 <br />For SLAC <br />In 2010, 23,738 pounds of CWC 223 waste was generated at SLAC. In 2006, only 611 pounds of this waste <br />was generated, since the operations were the result of small cleaning operations that were <br />pumped on a periodic basis. In 2010, the large quantity of oily sludge generated included <br />approximately 600 pounds of waste from routine steam cleaning and sump cleanout <br />operations and the balance, close to 13,000 pounds, from a massive cleaning effort <br />resulting from extensive use of transportation and maintenance equipment. This massive <br />cleanout was performed because of the unexpected detection of metallic lead, possibly <br />from a combination of cleaning of lead -containing equipment (that should not have been <br />cleaned with this system) or from extended collection and holding of sludge in the <br />separator tank when it was originally expected to qualify as non -hazardous and not <br />containing lead. As a preventative measure, only motor vehicles are cleaned in this area, <br />no other equipment. <br />7.4 Oily Solid and Solvent Solid Debris <br />In 2010, 10,114 pounds of this waste stream were generated and in 2006, 14,321 pounds <br />were generated indicating a trend in the right direction. <br />This waste stream is generated in the forms of: <br />• Replacement of old air compressor and air desiccant systems with two newer ones <br />at Buildings 7 and 23. <br />• Oily rags or wipes to cleanup equipment and machines that are identified above in <br />waste stream CWC 221. <br />• Rags used for cleaning of tools. <br />September 1, 2011 SB 14 Report <br />24 <br />
