BUII.DING 2, BUILDING 70A AND BUII.,DING 67 GENERAL LABORATORY
WASTE GENERATION PROCESSES
This waste stream consists of acidic wastewaters, and is generated as a result of general
laboratory processes. This waste stream had been categorized as CWC 134 in the past. The
waste stream is generated primarily in two research buildings, building 2, 70A, and 67 where
wastewaters from multiple sinks in different laboratories are collected in one retention tank at
each. building.
The wastewater is subsequently neutralized and discharged to a POTW. The treatment
consists of a neutralization process, which is authorized by California Tiered Permitting
program under Conditional Authorization.
SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
llescri tion of Measure:
LBNL modified the wastewater discharge system to xoute the wastewaters as makeup
water back to cooling towexs. This new water repurposing capability has resulted in
the reuse of approximately 400,000 gallons of water per year, see CWC 791 in Section
III. No other source reduction activities are planned at this time.
September 1, 2015 SB14 Plan 11.6
