OIL -WATER WASTE GENERATED FROM BCiILDING MAINTENANCE AND
EQUIPMENT REPAIRS WASTE GENERATION PROCESS
Hazardous Waste and Process Description
High voltage electrical equipment is maintained by SLAC Power Conversion Group. Some
electrical equipment degrades over time such that water or moisture gets into the dielectric
fluid and has to be replaced. If the equipment is at the end of its useful life, it may be
removed from service and replaced' with more reliable electrical equipment. Equipment
maintenance and removal is ongoing in which, where applicable, more reliable equipment is
purchased to reduce the frequency of replacement.
Hazardous Waste Management Approaches
Some oil4illed equipment are also being phased out due to ongoing changes in operational
needs as well as experimental needs. It is an ongoing activity to develop and use more
reliable equipment over time that significantly reduces the frequency of generating oil -water
waste.
.vu.tcc:L .tcliuL1-iONPOLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description of Measure:
SLAC Power Conversion Group operates each piece of equipment to the end of its
service life. When technically and economically feasible, SLAC purchases or replaces
new equipment that is more reliable, durable, and requires less maintenance over its
useful life. No other source reduction measures are recommended,
September 1, 2015 SB 14 Plan III -23
