8.2 Solvent Debris
Solvent and Oil
Contaminated Debris:
wipes, rags, pipette
tips, gloves, and PPE
Research and
Cleaning Activities;
Maintenance Service
and Repair;
Combustion
Research Facility;
Fabricating Parts
and/or Equipment
CWC 352 Other
Organic Solids
FIt}iJRE III.8.2: SOLVENT DEBRIS WASTB GENERATION PROCESS
Off -Site
This waste stream was formerly used specifically for solvent debris. lue to site changes in
Waste characterization personnel, oll contaminated debris is now also coded 352. In 2014,
the largest generators of oil contaminated debris were the Facilities Maintenance Department,
Combustion Research Facility, and the Machine shops. Solvent contaminated debris is
generated by various research operations across the site, including Materials Physics, and
Biological Science.
'', Both oil and solvent debris consists of rags, wipes, PPE, and other solids contaminated with
_ oil and/or solvent. Currently this debris is drummed separately and is predominantly
disposed of as a non-RCRA hazardous waste.
SOURCE REDUCTION/P'OLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
llescripiion of Measure:
This waste stream consists of oil contaminated debris as well as solvent debris. Since
2010 SNUCA changed waste characterization personnel, who determined it was more
accurate to include SNL/CA oily debris waste as code 352. Because oily debris is now
included in this code, there was a 37% increase in waste generated. However, Code 181
(formerly used for oil contaminated debris) experienced a 43% decrease.
September 1, 2015 SB14 Plan m-28
