For LBNL <br />3.4 Building 77 Parts Cleaning Facility <br />This waste stream is generated as a result of metal surface cleaning operations. Metal <br />parts are cleaned through a multi step process including the following: Ultrasonic <br />degreasing; washing with commercial industrial cleaners (such as 909,); Surface cleaning <br />with alkaline solutions, and DI -water and tap water rinsing. The waste stream consists of <br />spent solutions that must be changed periodically to maintain effectiveness. <br />Efforts to reduce waste stream volumes have included the reuse of rinsing water and the <br />conservative change out of spent solutions. The reduction in this waste stream is also due <br />to reduced parts cleaning activities at Building 77. Work at the facility can fluctuate with <br />laboratory operational needs and routine maintenance schedules also resulting in annual <br />variations in the volume of this waste stream. <br />September 1, 2015 SB 14 Report III -4 <br />
