LABORATORY PROCESS WASTE CHEMICALS
The chemicals and chemical solutions are used throughout LBNL research Divisions
(i.e. Life Sciences, Material Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Biosciences and
other research related Divisions) to prepare research samples and conduct experiments.
Chemicals are purchased in small amounts and stored in the individual laboratories.
Waste stream quantities fluctuate with the volume of research activities in progress.
SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description of Measure:
LBL purchases chemicals in small volumes and has implemented source reduction
measures which minimizes waste generation. Researchers are encouraged to limit
chemical purchases to what is necessary. No other source reduction measures are
planned at this time.
11. HALOGENATED CHEMICAL MIXTURES FROM NANO TECHNOLOGY WASTE
GENERATION PROCESS
CWC 741 waste streams are from laboratory research activities. The predominant
generator is the nano -technology research facility. The waste streams are comprised of
chemical mixtures from research activities, including; chlorobenzene, methylene
chloride, chloroform, polyfluorene, toluene, methanol, acetonitrile and many others.
SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description of Measure:
LBNL researchers are encouraged to purchase chemicals in small volumes and to
substitute non -hazardous or chemicals with reduced hazardous properties, as much as
possible. No other source reduction measures are planned at this time.
September 1, 2011 SB 14 Plan 60 September 1, 2011 SB 14 Plan
