• •
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) AND
MATRIX
Every effort will be made to eliminate or reduce a hazardous condition through engineering and/or administrative
controls. For hazardous conditions which cannot be eliminated through engineering or administrative controls:
SUPERVISORS WILL:
• Base the selection of Personal Protective Equipment on evaluation of specific tasks to be
performed, conditions present, employee capacities, and the intensity and duration of the
exposure.
• Conduct a worksite hazard assessment initially and as needed to determine the need for personal
protective equipment, assign the appropriate equipment and demonstrate its proper use, care and
storage.
(See Worksite Personal Protective Equipment Assessment and Job Hazard Analysis Worksheet_)
• Monitor employees for correct use and care of equipment, and provide follow-up training when
necessary to ensure protection.
• Monitor the worksite and tasks for changes and introduction of new hazards.
• Enforce this program following the company's progressive disciplinary policy.
EMPLOYEES WILL:
-Report changes in conditions that might require reassessment of the task or intensity and duration of
the exposure.
-Report or replace defective equipment.
PROTECTION CRITERIA:
• Eye and Face Protection. Employees must use appropriate eye and face protection when exposed to
flying debris, sparks or molten metal, hazardous chemicals, hazardous gases or vapors,or potentially
injurious light or heat radiation.
• Head Protection. Employees must wear protective helmets where there is a potential for impact
injury from collision with an overhead object,or from falling or moving objects. Protective helmets
designed for electrical shock protection must be wom when near electrical conductors which could
contact the head.
• Foot Protection. Employees must wear protective footwear where there is exposure to falling or
rolling objects, objects piercing the shoe sole, electrical hazards, water or chemical saturation,or
absorption.
• Hand Protection. Employees must use appropriate hand protection when exposed to absorption of
harmful substances;cuts or lacerations;abrasions;punctures;chemical burns;or thermal injury from
temperature extremes.
• Respiratory Protection. Employees will wear appropriate respiratory protection when adequate
ventilation or non-toxic material substitution, etc.,is not feasible.
(See Respiratory Protection Program or Permit Required Confined Space Entry Plan.)
Document#0707717814
Revision Date:04/03/01—SECT 14A.pdf
