0 0
tank. If the calculation indicates the tank may not be anchored sufficiently I put that
observation in my assessment report and require the anchor calculations be completed by
a registered civil or structural engineer. In areas of structural integrity of the tank itself, I
use standard tank design calculations as defined in API 650 for tank design or check the
tank against another design standard such as UL142.Occasionally, I calculate the
structural integrity of the tank using standard calculations defined in Mark's Mechanical
Engineers Handbook, Harvey's Theory and Design of Pressure Vessels or Young's
Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain. Other references I use during the inspection of
the tanks are Title 22, Cal CUPA Forum Guidance on Hazardous Waste Tanks, NFPA
30, California Fire Code, Becht's Guide to ASME B31.3 Process Piping as well as other
text books and documents.
Statement of Qualifications
Registered Chemical Engineer, California CH3755
American Petroleum Institute 653 Above Ground Tank Inspector, #31187
This certification includes the use of API 650 Welded Above Ground Storage Tank
specification, which has Appendix E is Seismic Design of Storage Tanks. This design
method is listed in the UBC as an alternative seismic design method for tanks.
Steel Tank Institute SP001 Level 1 and Level 2 Certified Above Ground Tank
Inspector.
This certification is for factory made steel tanks and relies heavily on UL 142 and NFPA
30. I have copies of both specifications which I use when I make my determinations.
40 Hour Hazardous Waste Training, University of California, Santa Cruz
Extension.
Confined Space Training, Levels 1, 2 &3, University of California, Santa Cruz
Extension.
Hazardous Waste Management Certificate of Achievement, Foothill College
Hands on Cameo Training, Harvard University of Public Health, U.S. EPA
NPDES Permit Writers Training, EPA
Underground Storage Tank System Workshop, Bay Area ETC
California UST System Operator, International Code Council
