J.R.SIMPLOT COMPANY 16777 HOWLAND ROAD P.O.BOX 198
LATHROP,CALIFORNIA 95334 (209)858-2511 FAX(209)858-2519
AGRIBUSINESS n
AU
G
d. 0
August 14, 2009 EIV!R Z09
NCA
Nr
San Joaquin County EHD
Attn: Michelle Henry
600 East Main St.
Stockton,Ca 95202
RE: Follow UpTo Hazardous Waste Inspection of June 29,2009
Dear Ms. Henry:
The purpose of this letter is to provide an update on the status of the items noted,in your June.29,2009
Haiardous Waste Generator Inspection of the JR Simplot Co:Lathrop facility. The majority of the items .
have been corrected as stated below.
Item#5:!!legal treatment,of hazardous waste.
This observation was due to neutralizing lab samples in the lab prior to disposal. This item is stili under
review and we are awaiting further details and guidance from SJCEHD staff. We expect this will be
provided in the final inspection report.
Item#12:Facility not maintained to minimize the release of hazardous waste.
This item was due to a forklift that had what appeared to be oil-stained soil around the piece of
equipment in the"Bone Yard".All rolling stock/powered equipment in that area has been hauled away
and recycled as scrap metal. Prior to removing the equipment, all fluids and filters were removed and
properly disposed. The impacted soil from this piece of equipment will be characterized and properly
disposed if necessary.
item#19:Stored hazardous waste on site longer than 90 without a permit or authorization.
This observation was for the Silver Photo Fixer Solution that was accumulated next to the print shop in a
.satellite accumulation area and within allowable accumulation time limits. This satellite accumulation
area was deemed.not adequate by the SJCEHD due to it being outside a door and not in direct control of
the print shop at all times. The drum of Silver Photo Fixer Solution was properly disposed on July 9,
Page 1 of 3
Bringing Earth's Resources to Life
