acetate sleeve will be opened and the soil transfer to TerraCore bottles for analysis of
VOCs. Soil for the other analyses (SVOCs, metals, and dioxins/furans) will be
retained in the acetate sleeve. The samples will be collected from the surface and
approximately 2.5, 5, 10, 25, and 40(or just above capillary fringe) feet bgs.
Soil samples for geotechnical analysis will be collected using a Geoprobe. The
samples will be collected in acetate sleeves during drilling of soil gas points.
5.5.3.3. Field Equipment
Sampling equipment includes the following:
• Maps/plot plan
• Safety equipment, as specified in the site-specific Health and Safety Plan
• Tape measure
• Camera and film
• Sample tubes and caps
• Zip-locked plastic bags (gallon and quart size)
• Logbook
• Chain-of-custody forms
• Custody seals
• Field data sheets and sample labels
• Decontamination supplies
• Nitrile gloves
• Geoprobe and related supplies
• Bentonite grout and cement
5.5.4. Sample Containers and Preservatives
Soil vapor samples will be collected according to the 2012 DISC Advisory-Active Soil
Gas Investigation (DTSC 2012). Soil vapor samples will be collected directly in glass
syringes. Samples will be analyzed onsite by a mobile laboratory.
The soil samples will be collected in 2-inch diameter acetate sleeves. A portion of the
sleeve will be opened to transfer soil to TerraCore bottles per EPA Method 5035A for
VOC analysis. Soil for the other analyses will be retained in the sleeve/tube in
approximate 6-inch lengths (if the diameter of the sleeve is less than 2 inches, the sample
length will be 8-12 inches). The sample tube ends will be covered with small sheets of
Teflon and capped.
The samples will be labeled at the sample location. No preservatives are necessary for
the acetate sleeve. Soil samples for VOC and 1-4-dioxane will be collected using
TerraCore samplers which will be supplied by the laboratory, pre-weighed, with the
appropriate preservatives.
Soil Gas and Soil Sampling Work Plan—Rev.4 7693-05
Former Kearney-KPF Facility Dudek
Stockton,CA 16 September 2013
