Alpine Avenue
Stockton, CA 95208
DISPOSAL OF GROUND WATER GENERATED BY AQUIFER TESTING AT KEARNEY-KPF IN
STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the 31 August 1992 letter from Peter Quinlan of Dudek and
Associates, requesting approval and/or comments on a proposal to discharge
ground water generated by aquifer testing in wells KI-11 and KI-14 to the
ground and to treat the discharge from wells KI-5, KI-12, PX-1 , and SPW by the
liquid phase carbon absorption units of the initial interim ground water
treatment system at the Kearney-KPF facility in Stockton.
Because no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been detected in ground
water samples from monitoring wells KI-11 and KI-14, it is not a threat to
ground water quality to discharge water from these wells to the ground.
Considering the low VOC concentrations in wells KI-5, KI-12, SPW, and PX-1,
treating the discharge from these four wells in the initial interim ground
water treatment system, with a 99.95% removal efficiency, should result in
effluent which meets the requirements of Waste Discharge Requirements Order
No. 91-220.
The disposal of ground water generated by aquifer testing as proposed is
acceptable. However, if the air stripper system is operational by the time
any of the aquifer testing is conducted in wells KI-5, KI-12, SPW, and PX-1,
then the ground water generated from these wells shall be treated in the air
stripper system.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5649.
L, ,
pY POLLY LOW Y
Associate Engineering Geologist
PAL: Idj
cc: Mr. Douglas O'Neal , Toxic Substances Control Division, Sacramento
Ms. Diane Hinson, Sna Joaquin County Department of Public Health
Services, Stockton
Mr. Derrick Peterson, Bryan, Cave, McPheeters, and McRoberts,
Washington, D.C.
Mr. Jerry Zilinskas, Kearney, New York
Mr. Peter Quinlan, Dudek and Associates, Encinitas
