0 <br /> Kearney - KPF -2- 13 January 1986 <br /> Walking back to the office, Mr. Peterson showed us a discharge of cooling water <br /> from their heat exchanger located in another building. He said that this was <br /> noncontact water to which no additives had been added. The discharge was to <br /> ground, and was quite warm. A sample was taken, but not analyzed. <br /> We noticed a barrel of 1 ,1,1-trichloroethane among other barrels. We asked <br /> about its use and Mr. Pelot showed us their degreasing room. There appeared to <br /> be no discharge from this room. <br /> We then met in Mr. Peterson' s office. I told him that this appeared to be a <br /> very serious problem, and that we would be calling in their HAR shortly after <br /> the new year begins. He told me that they had hired Canonie Engineers to do a <br /> preliminary study of the situation. I said that was a good idea and that in <br /> addition to the HAR we would require the entire horizontal and vertical extent <br /> of soil and ground water pollution be defined and cleaned up. <br /> INSPECTION SUMMARY <br /> The Kearney - KPF site appears to pose a serious and immediate threat to ground <br /> water quality. I recommend that we call in their HAR, and require complete <br /> horizontal and vertical definition of the soil and ground water pollution.
