Breaks in the enclosure will be allowed at ceiling level (about eight feet) for ventilation
purposes. These openings may be narrowed if additional dust control management is
determined to be necessary.
WORK PROCEDURES
Work procedures will comply with all applicable federal, state and local rules, regulations,
and laws governing the handling of asbestos -containing materials. All ACM to be
excavated will be handled wet. Intact poly bags will be HEPA vacuumed prior to transport
for disposal and ruptured bags will be rebagged prior to transport for disposal. All debris
that may have spilled as a result of ruptured bags will be HEPA vacuumed and bagged
for disposal using two 6 -mil poly bags with required labels. All excavated bags will be
disposed of within the same disposal site and will be handled in full compliance with the
law.
The "grey" glass batch material was originally disposed of in "Rhino" reinforced container
bags. We expect that the bags will be excavated generally intact, but that some tearing
may have occurred. Intact original disposal bags will not be opened. Torn bags will be
carefully repackaged into poly -lined fiber drums. Uncontained "grey" glass batch waste
materials will be vacuumed and packaged into the fiber drums. The excavation will be
judged to be complete when it is visually free of "grey" glass batch material.
Transportation off-site will be arranged through a licensed hazardous waste transporter.
After the waste is properly characterized, LOF will arrange for disposal at an appropriately
licensed facility.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
All personnel entering the enclosure will wear two full-body Tyvek (or equivalent) coveralls,
the outer layer of which will be disposed of upon exiting, steel -toed rubber boots, gloves,
and at least half -mask respirators equipped with HEPA cartridges.
DECONTAMINATION
A shower will be provided adjacent to the work area for personnel decontamination. In
general, showering will be required at the end of each workshift or when an employee
must leave the immediate work area. The shower requirements may be increased if
working conditions and associated dust and personal contact with wastes indicate a
need.
Employees will remove one protective suit when leaving the work area and proceed to
the shower before changing into street clothes.
Water for drinking and washing will be provided at the work site. If remote toilets are
used, personnel will be required to shower before proceeding out of the area. Toilets
placed adjacent to the work area will be cleaned daily of potentially asbestos -containing
wastes.
