8 LFR
Waste Characterization Sample Results ,
Results of this waste characterization sampling are presented in Table 1. Chain-of-custody t
documentation is included in Appendix A.
TPH-DRO was detected in each of the 6 collected waste characterization samples at concentrations '
ranging from 2,800 mg/kg in sample Bin-6 to 26,000 mg/kg in sample Bin-5.
TPH-GRO was detected each of the 6 collected waste characterization samples at concentrations '
ranging from 180 mg/kg in sample Bin-5 to 12,000 mg/kg in sample Bin-2.
Benzene was detected in a single soil sample (Bin-2) at a concentration of 3,600 gg/kg. Toluene t
was detected in the waste characterization samples collected from Bin-1 and Bin-2 at
concentrations of 110,000 Rg/kg and 21,000 µg/kg, respectively. Ethylbenzene was also detected '
in the waste characterization samples collected from Bin-1 and Bin-2 at concentrations of 67,000
µg/kg and 110,000 gg/kg, respectively. Total xylenes were detected in each of the 6 collected
waste characterization samples at concentrations ranging from 690,000µg/kg in sample Bin-2 to ,
4,900 µg/kg in samples Bin-5 and Bin-6.
The fuel oxygenates DIPS, ETBE MTBE, TAME, and TBA were not detected above laboratory ,
reporting limits in the waste characterization soil samples.
Based on average TPH concentrations calculated from the waste characterization soil data ,
presented in Table 1, approximately 5,525 pounds (730 gallons) of TPH-DRO and 1,530 pounds
(232 gallons) of TPH-GRO were recovered in soil during remedial excavation activities.
Confirmation Sampling Results ,
Soil Sampling Results t
Analytical results for the confirmation soil samples collected on August 16, 2006 are shown on '
Figure 3 and summarized in Table 2. These data indicate that residual petroleum hydrocarbons are
present in soil within the manifold area.
TPH-DRO was detected in 16 of the 17 of the collected soil samples at concentrations ranging '
from 24 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in sample SS-17 to 29,000 mg/kg in sample SS-11.
TPH-GRO was detected in each of the 17 collected soil samples at concentrations ranging from '
9.7 mg/kg in sample SS-5 to 9,600 mg/kg in sample SS-1. TPH-JFRO was not detected in the 17
soil samples collected from excavation sidewalls
Benzene was detected in 6 of the 17 collected soil samples at locations generally near the '
back-pressure valve release location. Benzene concentrations at these locations ranged from 58
micrograms per kilogram (µg/kg) in sample SS-7 to 4,000 gg/kg in sample SS-14. '
t
6 '
