American
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD)has completed review
of the "Groundwater Grab Sample Analysis" report dated April 20, 1993 and prepared by E2C. PHS/EHD
has the following comments for your consideration.
The work was initiated by Allen Law of Quikerete of Northern California as an assessment of residual
contamination prior to a possible site acquisition. The results of the prior soil investigation (January 1993)
indicated residual soil contamination. The recent investigation (April 1993)was to ascertain whether or not
groundwater has been adversely impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons contamination which resulted from t
leaking underground storage tanks. ZV 15
Ccz,2cT
The results of the April 1993 investigation, during which a grab water sample collected a:indicat
feet be w
ground surface from a soil boring drilled in the vicinity of documented soil co tta tt1on, at
groundwater had been impacted. Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination of up to 14 ppm as; 17 ppm
TPH-diesel; 20,000 ppb benzene; 57,000 ppm toluene; 6,000 ppm ethylbenzene; and 23,000 ppb xylene was
evidenced in the groundwater sample collected.
Based on analytical results from the January 1993 soil investigation and from the April 1993 groundwater
investigation, additional soil and groundwater investigation and remediation will be necessary. Please prepare
and submit to PHS/EHD by July 30, 1993 a work plan to continue the investigation of soil and groundwater
contamination.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mary Ways, Senior REHS, of my staff at (209)
468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health OiCotulla,
Laurie A REHS, Pro am Manager
Environmental Health Division
LAC/MM:lb
c: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB c: Lisa Brown, SJC District Attorney
c: Allen Law, Quikrete
A Division of fan jwquin Cuunw Heath(:are S cn 10
