The Workplan proposed installation of three groundwater monitoring wells (MW-2
through MW-4) and two soil vapor probes (SV-1 and SV-2)for a soil gas survey. The 2" diameter
monitoring wells will be screened from 30' below ground surface (bgs) to 50' bgs. Up to six soil samples
per boring may be collected prior to constructing MW-2 through MW-4. Groundwater and soil gas
sample analyses will include total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylenes, and fuel oxygenates methyl tert butyl ether, tert butyl alcohol, di isopropyl ether,
ethyl tert butyl ether, and tert amyl methyl ether by USEPA Method (Method) 8260B. Soil analyses will
include the above water and soil vapor constituents, but will also include an analyses option of TPHg by
either Methods 8015M or 8260B, and will add total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel by Method 8015M
with silica gel cleanup, total recoverable hydrocarbons by SM5520F with silica gel cleanup, and total
lead by Method 6010. SV- and SV-2 will be installed as temporary vapor sampling probes, screened at
5' bgs, and located at the northern and southern extent of the tank pit in a open, covered (breezeway)
vehicle driveway within the pallet shop. Soil vapor will be collected in Summa canisters for analysis by
Method TO-15. A report of the investigations will be submitted within 30 days of receipt of analytical
data. The scope of work is consistent with the W & K cost proposal approved on 9 March 2011.
The Workplan is necessary and appropriate, and is conditionally approved with the following revisions:
• Silica gel cleanup will not be performed as listed above, due to the inability to determine which polar
constituents are removed (petroleum hydrocarbons vs. non-petroleum hydrocarbons) by the process.
• Lead scavengers 1, 2-dichloroethane and ethylene dibromide will be added to Method 8260B.
Please contact me by phone at (916) 464-4614 or by email at IbartonCa-waterboards.ca.aov if you have
questions or comments.
ames L.L.
