Reih
'GlassFroi ln9 Closure Plan, Continued.
Wipe Sampling Methodology
The building interior will be measured and marked into a grid pattern for wipe-
sampling purposes. The wipe samples will be taken from the middle of the grid
square, based on the above referenced sized sectors. The minimum number of
confirmation samples to be taken is calculated below.
Number of Wipe Samples Required
Initial Decontamination Verification
Annex
Process = 20,000 ftz/350 = 58 confirmation samples
Storage = 5,000 ftZ/5000 = 4 confirm samples (min)
Cat-Walk/Walls, etc = 10 confirm samples (Est)
Subsequent Decontamination Verification
Annex
50% of Above = 36 confirmation samples
TOTAL = 108 confirmation samples
Appropriate sample containers and equipment will be obtained from the California-
certified analytical laboratory contracted to perform the California-regulated metals
analyses (CAM 17). Wipe samples will be obtained from a sampling location within each
grid using a 10 cm x 10 cm square template. The wipes will be saturated with a suitable
solvent (as recommended by the laboratory) and the entire area inside the template will
be thoroughly wiped. The wipe will then be placed into a dedicated sample container
for transportation to the laboratory. Proper chain of custody and quality assurance
procedures will be followed. Duplicate samples are not possible for wipe samples.
"Blank" samples will be submitted for quality control, in accordance with laboratory
QA/QC requirements.
The wipe sample data will be compared to EPA Benchmark levels to determine if
further cleaning is necessary. If EPA Benchmark levels are exceeded, the area(s)
represented by those samples will be re-cleaned and re-sampled.The EPA
Benchmark levels are as follows:
EPA Benchmark Levels'
Element I Benchmark(µg/m) Element Benchmark(Mg/m2)
Antimony 627 Lead 25 pg/ft
Arsenic 387 Mercury 157
Barium 110,000 Molybdenum Not established
Beryllium 3,140 Nickel 31,400
1 Available at http://www.epa.gov/wtc/wipe_samples/censuspdfs/wipe_benchrnarks.htm.Accessed January 28,
2011.. ,
RECEIVED
9/15/2014 6 OCT 10 2014
ENVIROIN1MPVTAI_ 147A7H
