JUN 15 1977 <br /> SAN <br /> sffnntrea r�5triet (611nnn4er of (6an1n1erer HEALT1-1 DlST ,)-AL <br /> F?!0T <br /> 166 NORTH MAPLE STREET MANTECA, CA. 95336 TELEPHONE 209 /8236121 <br /> June 14, 1977 <br /> Mr. Spano <br /> San Joaquin County Air Pollution Board <br /> P 0 Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, Ca. 95201 <br /> Dear Mr. Spano; <br /> I am writing this letter as a concerned citizen and member of the <br /> Manteca District Chamber of Commerce. <br /> There evidently is a segment of our community very much annoyed by <br /> the "odor" emanating from the settling ponds on the Spreckels sugar <br /> plant property, and would like to see the plant shut down as a public <br /> nuisance and air pollution problem. <br /> I would like to go on record supporting Spreckels sugar factory and <br /> their efforts to attempt to control an odor situation that is not <br /> pleasant, but at least bearable, when one takes into consideration <br /> the total payroll and employment the factory provides for some 350 Manteca <br /> and San Joaquin County residents. <br /> It would certainly be a shame if this major industry within our county <br /> were shut down, because of an unfortunate situation that exists, due <br /> to what I consider an encroachment northeast and down wind from an <br /> "odor" that is a necessary nuisance, if you will, created in the process <br /> of converting sugar beets into sugar. <br /> Sincerely yours, <br /> Ron Novacek, Treasurer <br /> Manteca District Chamber of Commerce <br /> C R O S S R O A D S 0 F C A L I F O R N I A <br />
