Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Mr . Spano ,
In the past few weeks there has been substantial controversy
regarding Spreckels Sugar and it ' s odor problem. As long time
citizens of Manteca we fully recognize the problem and we share
the concern of both factions. In todays rapid growth of cities,
situations of this nature are bound to occur even with the best
of planning and forsight of all those envolved .
We feel that Spreckels has contributed a great deal to the success
experienced in the growth and development of Manteca. We believe
they are deeply concerned with the odor problem and are trying to
be good neighbors and aleviate the problem as quickly and success-
fully as possible. It is felt that they should be given every
opportunity to make what ever changes are necessary to eleminate
the pollution of air yet maintain the operation of the plant in
a manner which is profitable for themselves and the community.
We feel that the rights of those envolved must be protected and
that corrective actions be tempered with understanding. A great
deal is at stake and a hasty decision could result in dr repairable
damage to the city and citizens.
'John Guthmiller Oar
occhini George Dadasovich
Board President ember Chairman, Legislative
Committee
,Sy of num Patricia Calahan
Board Secretary Bpard Member
C4 Q / , 1611D
Bill Perry Carl Bennett Dorothy ✓Gies
Board Me r Board Member Board Vice President
