0 0
FIRE
There are different methods of putting fires out for different types of fires. For example,
water would not be used to put out an oil fire because oil and water do not mix and the
water would only spread the oil and fire. The following is a list of the different types or
classes of fires and the corresponding fire extinguishers.
TYPES OF FIRES
CLASS A:
Ordinary paper or wood fires
CLASS B:
flammable liquids
(oils, gasoline, solvents)
CLASS C:
electrical equipment
CLASS D:
combustible metals
(Li, Mg, Ti, Zn, Na, K)
TYPES OF EXTINGUISHERS
Water or CLASS A extinguisher
CLASS B extinguisher
(CO2 or dry chemical)
CLASS C extinguisher
CLASS D extinguisher
Halon fire extinguishers have a class rating of ABC. They put out fires by interrupting
the chemical reaction which is necessary for a fire to continue burning. Halon fire
extinguishers are preferable when computers and other sensitive equipment are in the
area because these extinguishers do not leave a powdery chemical residue. Fire sites
which have been extinguished using Halon have a potential for re -igniting when the
Halon dissipates. To prevent re -ignition, ensure all power supplies are turned off.
500 South Beckman Road Contingency Plan
ArmorStruxx, LLC Lodi, CA 95240 11.26
March 2013
