0 0 <br />EARTHQUAKE <br />Earthquake Preparedness: <br />1. Know the area <br />A. Know the safe spots in each room: under sturdy tables, desks, or against <br />inside walls. <br />B. Know the dangerous spots: windows, mirrors, hanging objects, tall <br />unsecured furniture, or other objects. <br />C. Know how to shut off gas, water, and electricity in case lines are damaged <br />(refer to the Organizational Chart at the end of Section A). <br />2. Secure Objects <br />A. Secure all gas cylinders, tall furniture or objects such as bookcases, <br />cabinets, etc. Any toppled water heater, gas or electric, is a fire hazard <br />and therefore should be strapped to the wall. <br />B. Keep breakables and heavy objects on bottom shelves. <br />C. Put latches on cabinet doors to keep them closed during an earthquake. <br />D. Keep all chemicals, especially flammables, in cabinets, secured on lower <br />shelves, or on the floor. <br />3. Equipment Inventory <br />batteryoperated radio, extra batteries, <br />A. As soon as possible, evacuate the building and report to the evacuation meeting <br />point. <br />2. Employees who are near exits will evacuate the building and will report to an <br />emergency coordinator at the evacuation meeting point. <br />3. Employees who are within the facility will get under a desk or table, or stand <br />under a door frame or in a corner. Keep away from all chemicals and tanks. <br />4. If you are outdoors, get into an open area away from trees, buildings, walls, and <br />power lines. <br />5.
