6. Water Based Inks—If water based inks cannot be reused, blended into another color, or return to the original vendor for credit, collect all water based waste inks in an appropriate sized container and label accordingly (Refer to labeling section of the Heritage Waste Handling Manual available online on Heritage website). Water based waste inks are considered and handled as non-hazardous waste. Heritage Environmental can handle this waste stream along with our other approved solid waste management contractors — Waste Management, BFI/Allied, Republic Services, and/or Summit Environmental. Contact any of them to determine your least expensive handling cost or contact Corrugated Packaging Environmental Affairs for further guidance and assistance. 7. Processable Aerosol Cans —"All" aerosol cans, when depleted due to being completely empty can be disposed in normal trash. However many aerosol cans are thrown away because they have a broken nozzle or are plugged. Plant have the option to collect all used/spent aerosol can in an appropriate sized container (usually a 30 or 55 gallon drum) and label as a hazardous waste -- normally due to flammable propellants. Heritage can then dispose of all the collected aerosols as a hazardous waste. The facility can elect to collect all the used/spent aerosol can and on a regular basis go through the collection and one or two designated person determine which aerosol are truly empty (can be thrown into trash) and which ones are not empty and have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. Keep all used/spent aerosol cans in a plant out of the trash and place in the hazardous waste aerosol can collection container. Used/spent aerosol cans can be managed as a universal waste stream in Colorado. Label your waste container appropriately (Refer to labeling section of the Heritage Waste Handling Manual available online on Heritage website). Contact Corrugated Packaging Environmental Affairs or your Heritage Customer Service Representative for further guidance and assistance. 8. Paint Cans —If there are paint cans/containers (non-aerosol) that contain unusable/residual waste paint, and previously contained hazardous materials, the cans/containers need to be managed as hazardous waste. Place them in an appropriate waste container and label accordingly (Refer to labeling section of the Heritage Waste Handling Manual available online on Heritage website). Contact Corrugated Packaging Environmental Affairs or your Heritage Customer Service Representative for further guidance and assistance. 9. EmntX Paint Cans — Truly empty paint cans/containers (non-aerosol) can be managed as a non-hazardous solid waste stream — they can be put into normal trash providing that there are no trash handling prohibition regarding empty, non-hazardous paint containers. Check with the local trash hauler to determine. Contact Corrugated Packaging Environmental Affairs for further guidance and assistance. 10. Empty Poly Drums/Containers — To the maximum extent possible, manufacturing sites should purchase raw materials in returnable containers or in bulk to reduce and/or eliminate the need to dispose of empty containers. Before paying Heritage to dispose of empty containers, consider alternative disposal or uses, such as trash containers, shop rags/towels containers, etc. Containers must be empty and free of any liquids before disposal. Try to crush the container or cut it up when putting into a trash dumpster or compactor. Heritage should be your last resort for disposal of any non-hazardous waste. Empty Steel Drums —To the maximum extent possible, manufacturing sites should purchase raw materials in returnable containers or in bulk to reduce and/or eliminate the need to dispose of empty containers.
