the positive identification and concentration of hazardous substances at a job site. The
safety officer shall record
the following:
O Names of personnel entering the work area.
O Type and level of protective equipment worn.
O Length of potential exposure of each person
entering the work area.
O Record of all measurements taken either through
direct reading instruments or chemical analysis.
O A narrative of all significant activity taking
place from first call until the incident scene is
secure.
Some hazardous substances take time to show up in a
person's system after exposure. When such exposures
may have occurred, the medical personnel may opt to
relieve that person of any potential for additional
exposure(s) until the elapsed time period and
subsequent tests are accomplished, or medical personnel
may opt to Initiate treatment on the supposition symptoms
may soon appear. In this manner, potential health
problems can be resolved even before they appear.
Temporary job reassignment may be necessary. TEC's goal
is to ensure no one ever gets exposed to anything other
than what our protective equipment can protect us from,
but the goal of medical surveillance is to achieve early
detection and treatment in the event of an inadvertent exposure.
- 13 -
