1 . <br /> maintaining his/her respirator,and that the level of achieved respiratory protection is <br /> adequately protecting each employee during an active spill. <br /> The Health and Safety Officer and Project Management shall evaluate the respiratory <br /> protection program on a regular basis,to ensure its continuing effectiveness. <br /> Levels of Protection <br /> It is anticipated that most project operations can be performed in Level D or C protective <br /> clothing. Some emergency response activities may require Level B protective clothing. <br /> Level A equipment will be available if the hazard involved warrants. <br /> Level A Protection <br /> Level A Personal Protective Equipment use is not anticipated. Level A PPE would be <br /> required for emergency response operations involving the release or the potential release <br /> of extremely hazardous substances. <br /> Level A PPE will consist of: <br /> • Hardhat where overhead hazards exist <br /> • Disposable coveralls and undergarments <br /> • Totally encapsulating protective clothing <br /> • Self contained breathing apparatus(SCBA) <br /> • Neoprene or PVC boots as appropriate <br /> • Metatarsal Guard if required <br /> Level B Protection <br /> Level B Protection is required for some emergency response operations, opening and <br /> sampling of completely unknown drums and may be required for confined space <br /> operations. <br /> Level B PPE will consist of: <br /> • Hardhat,where overhead hazards exist <br /> • SCBA or full-face piece, pressure-demand, supplied air respirator(SAR) <br /> • Disposable suit <br /> • Chemical protective coveralls with hood. Suit will be chosen for compatibility with <br /> chemicals present at the site <br /> • Chemical protective gloves(appropriate to chemicals present)with nitrile or surgical <br /> under gloves <br /> • Steel toed chemical protective boots(appropriate to chemicals present) <br /> • Metatarsal Guards if required <br /> Level C Protection <br /> Level C Protection will be required whenever workers are: (1)opening containers (2) <br /> handling any hazardous material, (3)sampling any hazardous material,(4)hazard <br /> categorizing unknown materials,(5)remediating the spill site or(6)whenever required <br /> by the Project Manager. <br /> 17 <br />
