Lockout/Tagout
Nor-Cal Construction has developed a lockout/tagout procedure, which establishes
requirements for the lockout and tagout of machinery and equipment to ensure that
employees are isolated from hazardous energy sources before they perform any servicing,
maintenance, repair or replacement activities. Key elements of this procedure are as
follows:
• The Project Manager is responsible for the identification of energy sources, which
require control, as well as the equipment and machinery affected prior to any
work,which requires testing,repair or replacement.
• The Project Manager will determine the employees who are authorized to engage
in lockout/tagout procedures. Only these employees will be issued lockout/tagout
equipment.
• The Health and Safety Officer shall provide technical support for the
establishment of standard operation procedures and training in lockout/tagout
requirements.
• The Health and Safety Officer will issue both locks and tags.
• All employees shall comply with the established procedures on controlling
potentially hazardous energy sources. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary
action up to and including possible termination.
The Project Manager must ensure that subcontractors are informed of Nor-Cal
Construction's lockout/tagout program.
Potable Water
Personnel will have access to a supply of cool, clean potable water for drinking. If a
permanent plumbed, potable water supply is not available at a site, then Nor-Cal
Construction will supply a portable source of cool, clean, potable water, sufficient for a
complete work shift. If a portable water source is used,it shall be stored in the break
area, well away from all hazardous chemicals.
All potable water containers shall be equipped with a tap or spigot. An adequate supply
of disposable cups will be provided at every site, where potable water supplies are used,
or at fixed water supply sites, which do not have a drinking fountain.
Toilets
Toilets will be available at each site,at a ratio of one toilet per fifteen workers. A
minimum of one toilet shall always be available at each work site, even if there are fewer
71
