SECTION 1.0 INTRODUCTION
The health and safety of all project personnel involved at the Lodi Unified School District
underground storage tank removal project is of primary importance. Therefore, this Health and
Safety Plan was developed and is intended to be followed by all project personnel. It is the
responsibility of the Project Manager and the Site Safety Officer to implement and enforce the
plan and any subsequent revisions, during the course of all operations at the site.
1 . 1 OVERVIEW
The Lodi School District has retained Wright Environmental Services, Inc. (WES) to remove
four underground storage tanks and restore the site to a permanent fueling area. The typical
steps involved with tank removal are:
1. Draining/cleaning of all liquid from the tanks and associated lines.
2. Capping or removing of associated lines.
3. Excavation and removing the tanks from the ground.
4. Freeing the tanks of toxic vapors.
5. Disposing of the tanks.
6. Backfilling the excavation hole.
The hazards expected to be encountered during the project are exposure to physical hazards such
as slipping, tripping, cuts, strains bruises, smashing limbs from working around heavy
equipment (pinch points), excessive noise, broken bones and heat stress. The tank capacities
and proposed contents are listed below:
CAPACITY (Gallons) CONTENTS
2 10,000 Diesel
1 10,000 Gasoline
1 S00 Waste Oil
