MONITORING ALTERNATIVE 6
Implementation of this monitoring alternative will require
Daily Inventory Reconciliation, Annual Tank Integrity
Testing, Pipeline Leak Detection, Vadose Zone or Ground Water
Monitoring Wells, and Soil Testing. If this monitoring
alternative is chosen, implementation should be carried out
as follows:
1) Perform the initial tank integrity test/tests to confirm that
the tank/tanks do/does not leak at the time of implementation
of the monitoring alternative. Integrity testing must be
done within one year prior to implementation of the
monitoring alternative. Based on information obtained from
facility personnel all/the tanks/tank at this facility have
passed an integrity test within the last year.
Vadose Zone Wells
2a) Undisturbed soil samples shall be taken from the soil
immediately surrounding each/the tank. The boring/borings
shall be drilled to a depth of 40 feet and undisturbed soil
samples shall be taken at 5 foot intervals with the last
sample obtained from the base of the borings. All samples
shall be properly sealed, labeled and preserved until they
are delivered to a location where they can be analyzed to
determine the presence of any possible hazardous substances
that are present. Soil sampling and testing shall be carried
out as specified in Section 2645 of the Underground Storage
Tank Regulations.
3a) If the soil samples obtained are determined to be free of
hazardous material a vadose zone monitoring well shall be
installed in the vacated boring/borings. Vadose zone
monitoring wells shall be designed and installed as specified
in Sections 2646 and 2648 of the Underground Storage Tank
Regulations. Vadose zone testing shall be performed
semi-annually, at a minimum. Three types of vadose zone leak
detectors, each of which would be acceptable for use at this
site are attached at the end of the package.
4a) Implementation of this monitoring alternative will require
annual calibration of flow meters by the State of California
Bureau of Weights and Measures.
