Excavations will be fenced off and samples (see sampling plan) will be taken.
When it is determined that there has been no contamination the excavations will be
backfilled immediately. Excavation and disposal of contaminated soils will be
negotiated with the appropriate regulators.
SAMPLING PLAN
Soil samples will be taken at each underground storage tank site. A minimum of
two samples one at each end of the tanks will be taken. The soil will be brought to
the surface of the excavation where soil will be put into a brass sampling tube and
kept cool per laboratory protocol.
Soil underneath the removed leaded gasoline tank will be tested for:
TPH-G8015,8260
BTX &E 8020,8260
Total Lead 7420,7421
mtbe 8020
Soil underneath the removed diesel tank will be tested for:
TPH-138015,8260
BTX &E 8020,8260
mtbe 8020
In addition, the piping soil will be samples every 20 linear feet. No more than 20
linear feet of piping per tank is expected.
BACKFILL
As soon as no contamination is determined the site will be backfilled with the
native soil (if clean) and pea gravel placed in 12 inch lifts.
