Sidewalls appeared to be clean. Sod type well
graded sand.
TS2-T2-GW 13 Collected below Tank 2, strong petroleum hydrocarbon
odor, no sheen visible.
TS2-SP2-E Collected from east end of stockpile 2.
TS2-SP2-W Collected from west end of stockpile 2.
NOTES:
Alison Youngblood, PHS/EHD regulator
Dave Barboza, Tracy Fire Dept Battalion Chief
Generator EPA ID CAC 002360583
Transporter of rinsate: American Valley Waste Oil, EPA ID CAL 000827878
Manifest #s for tank rinsate: Tank 120958403, Tank 2,
Destination of tank rinsate: Thorpe Oil to arrange.
Transporter of tanks: Thorpe Oil
Tank tracking #s: Tank 1: 39-515589; Tank 2: 39-515591
Destination of Tanks: Schnitzer Steel, Rancho Cordova, CA.
6/11/01
Tank 1 was uncovered and inerted by placing the appropriate amount of dry ice inside the tank.
The lower explosive level (LEL) for gasoline and oxygen content was then monitored. When
LEL and oxygen levels were within safe limits, excavation of Tank 1 resumed. During excavation
of Tank 1, another UST of unknown contents (Tank 2, aprox 1,000 G) was discovered west of Tank 1.
Tank I excavation dim 24 feet x 11 feet x 10 feet in east/west trend. Soil samples were collected from the
eastern and western floors of the pit approximately 2 feet below the tank bottom. Soil was impacted and had
gray discoloration. Product was evident in impacted soil. Moderate to high diesel and heavy end petroleum
hydrocarbon odor was evident along excavation floor; sidewalls appeared to be clean. Water was present in
tank pit, which may have possibly been introduced from tank cleaning activities. PHS/EHD requested two
discrete stockpile samples in lieu of collecting two composite samples. Stockpile samples were collected
from east and west ends. Stockpile volume was aprox 58 yds. Water was present in the tank pit. Upon
discussion with PHS/EHD, it was decided to collect water samples after the removal of the second tank.
Subsequent to the removal of Tank and associated sampling activities, Tank 2 was uncovered; however, the
tank was not removed due to the inability to obtain vac truck for rinsate at such short notice. Tank 2 will be
removed at later date. Analysis: TPHd, TPHg, gasoline oxygenates, BTEX, total lead.
2of2
