N.
..i
6/15/01
Tank 2 was inerted by placing the appropriate amount of dry ice inside and monitoring the oxygen
level and LEL for gasoline. When safe levels for the monitored parameters were reached,
excavation resumed and Tank 2 was removed. Final excavation dimension 30 feet x 11 feet x 10
feet. Contamination was evident in impacted soil. Moderate to high diesel and heavy end petroleum
hydrocarbon odor was evident along excavation floor; sidewalls appeared to be clean. Water was not
visible; however, groundwater samples were taken from below the center of each respective tank
location. Had backhoe operator dig down a few feet to access water for sample collection. Soil
samples were collected from the eastern and western ends of the tank along the floor of the pit approximately
2 feet below the tank bottom. Discrete stockpile samples were collected from east and west ends. 40 cu yd
removed in Tank 2 location. Approximate total volume of soil removed = 91 cu yd. Analysis: TPHd, TPHg,
gasoline oxygenates, BTEX, total lead.
3 of 3
