The well will be purged of three well volumes of groundwater utilizing a decontaminated
bailer or pump (depending on volume of water to be removed) A water sample will be
collected from the well when the water reaches 80 percent of its initial level If the well is
slow to recover, a sample will be collected after the well has stabilized If the well is found
to contain free product, a sample for laboratory analysis will not be collected Measurements
of temperature, conductivity, and pH will be measured and recorded to verify well
stabilization
Groundwater will be sampled using a new Voss Technologies disposable bailer The water
sample will be placed in appropriate containers supplied by the laboratory Care will be
taken that no headspace is present in sample bottles which will be analyzed for volatile
organic compounds Once the sample is collected, the bottles will be placed in "ziploc" bags
and sealed with security tape The sample will be stored in an ice chest with water ice until
delivery to the on-site mobile laboratory
The water samples will be analyzed by a California state certified mobile analytical
Iaboratory The sample will be analyzed utilizing the methods and detection limits shown
below:
ANALYSIS NAME SAMPLE METHOD DETECTION LIMIT*
CONTAINER (ppb)
BTEX Three 40m1 EPA
(benzene, volatile organic MODIFIED
toluene, vials with HC1 8020 05
ethyl benzene,
total xylenes)
TPH as diesel Two one liter DHS GC-FID
amber bottles MODIFIED 50
with HCl (8015)
NOTE: TPH = Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
The sample will be delivered to the laboratory in a chilled ice chest with appropriate chain of
custody forms Upon arrival to the laboratory the samples' condition will be checked and any
nonconformaties will be noted on the chain of custody forms. Copies of signed laboratory
reports will be presented in the subsequent Site Investigation Report
MZAD9-21-93/ENG/93-0127 bk
5
