waste Oil, Petroleum Based <br /> MEDICAL AID <br /> - DECONTAMINATION GUIDELINES (NTC) - <br /> Personnel: shower with soap and water. <br /> Clothing: launder contaminated clothing. <br /> Equipment: hose off, wipe down using strong detergent, rinse away. <br /> Run-off water: trap product with absorbents, then release clear water. <br /> - BASIC FIRST AID (DOT) - <br /> Move victim to fresh air and call emergency medical care. If not <br /> breathing give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give <br /> oxygen. <br /> In case of contact with material, immediately flush eyes with running water <br /> for at least 15 minutes. wash skin with soap and water. <br /> Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes at the site. <br /> - MEDICAL TREATMENT OF VICTIMS (NTC) - <br /> Inhalation: move to safety, intubate and resuscitate if needed, give oxygen. <br /> Monitor breath sounds for chemical pneumonia. Start IV TKO, monitor lead <br /> II and get baseline arterial blood gases. Get specialty care if serious. <br /> Skin contact: wash skin with soap and water, check for chemical burns, treat <br /> as indicated. Launder contaminated clothing. <br /> Eye contact: irrigate eyes with normal saline or tap water. Apply pro- <br /> tective eye ointment, if indicated, and patch eyes as needed. <br /> Ingestion: if conscious, g;ve clear liquids. No emesis with ipecac. <br /> If unconscious, intubate to protect airway, then consider gastric lavage. <br /> May also instill charcoal. Seek immediate specialty care. <br /> Medical surveillance is for possible skin allergy, toxic effects of oil <br /> additives. <br /> - ABSORPTION / DISTRIBUTION / METABOLISM (NTC) - <br /> Absorption: through lungs, mucous membranes, skin and GI tract. . <br /> Distribution: to body fat depots. <br /> Unchanged material: primarily excreted via stool. <br /> Metabolic conversion: minimal conversion to CO2 and water which are excreted <br /> via urine, sweat and breath. None remains in the body unchanged. <br />
