6.6 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Equipment listed below must be available onsite in appropriate sizes for use when needed. <br /> • NIOSH approved full- or half-face respirator with organic vapor <br /> cartridges. Respirators must be wom when airborne hydrocarbon <br /> action levels are reached or exceeded. <br /> Polyethylene coated Tyvek coveralls. Coated coveralls must be wom <br /> when product quantities of fuel are encountered and when fuel- <br /> saturated soil is handled. <br /> • Safety goggles or glasses. Must be worn when working within 10 feet <br /> of operating heavy equipment (e.g., drill rig, backhoe). Must be <br /> splash-proof when handling concentrated fuel product. <br /> Nitrile or neoprene gloves for all fuels. Gloves must be wom when <br /> handling contaminated soil or water or drilling or digging into <br /> contaminated soil. Confirm with your HSO the applicability of model <br /> and brand of gloves! <br /> • Butyl rubber safety boots, calf-length. Must be worn when walking <br /> on obviously contaminated soil. Steel toed boots must be worn when <br /> working within W feet of operating heavy equipment. <br /> • Hardhat.
