SPOCKTON ASR UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK
REMOVAL AND CLOSURE REPORT
i-
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
— Research Management Consultants, Inc. (RMCI) has been tasked by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) to oversee the removal of a 1000 gallon capacity diesel underground
storage tank (UST). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is in the process of
replacing underground fuel storage tanks (USTs) with aboveground fuel storage tanks
(ASTs). The subject tank was located at the Stockton Metropolitan Airport, Stockton,
California. In addition to tank removal, samples were collected from the excavation and
stockpiled soil as required by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division. These activities were conducted on April 15, 1994 under
the supervision of Ms. Pamela Violett, Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist,
San Joaquin County.
Based on the findings detailed in this report, RMCI considers the excavation to be free of
significant petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants originating from the removed UST.
Laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from the floor of the excavation indicate no
diesel compounds detected above the reporting limit of 2.5 mg/kg. The stockpiled soil
which was removed from the excavation contains petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants
above the action level of 100 mg/kg. Laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from
_ the stockpile indicate diesel compounds detected at a concentration of 180 mg/kg. Based
on discussions with the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division, removal and
proper disposal of the stockpiled soils should meet the requirements for closure of
underground storage tank sites.
Stockton ASR UST
Removal/Closure Report 11 June 24, 1994
