Facility Information
The Libbey-Owens-Ford Co. (LOF) manufacturing facility is situated
in the City of Lathrop and fronts Louise Avenue, a major east/west
route through the City of Lathrop. In 1986, a 5,000 gallon
underground storage tank was installed on the north side of the
facility adjacent to the cap and cut area (see Figure 1) The tank
holds gasoline which is used in forklifts.
Underground Tank Monitoring Equipment
Monitoring of the underground tank is accomplished by the use of a
Veeder-Root TLS -250 tank level sensor system. The monitoring
system allows for on -demand inventory reporting as well as the
ability to detect leaks via leak detection reports and leak alarm.
Information is supplied via a digital readout and/or a print-out.
The monitoring equipment is wall mounted and located in the quality
control office, approximately 200 feet south of the underground
tank (see Figure 1).
Monitoring Procedure
To monitor the tank, LOP personnel check the Veeder-Root TLS -250
daily, Monday - Friday. The equipment is checked to determine if
it is operating correctly. The monitoring equipment allows for
manual override to check hardware and software. At the end of the
inspection, the results are entered into a log maintained adjacent
to the equipment. At the end of the month when tank inventory is
taken, the log is collected and placed with the inventory
paperwork.
Monitoring and maintenance of the monitoring equipment is the
responsibility of the electricians assigned to the maintenance
department. Assigning these tasks to the maintenance department
allows for immediate response to any problems associated with the
monitoring equipment including the repair of the equipment. The
supplier of the monitoring equipment is also available to assist in
trouble shooting any problems. Preventive maintenance of the
monitoring equipment will in accordance to the manufacturer's
instructions.
