Harding Way
Stockton CA 95204
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the "Soil Sampling during UST, Product Line, and Dispenser Removal
Activities" dated December 10, 1999 that was submitted by SECOR International Inc.
(SECOR) on behalf of the above referenced site and has the following comments.
Three underground storage tanks (UST) associated piping and dispensers were
removed under permit and inspection from this site between May 25, 1999 and June 9,
1999. Soil samples for analysis were collected and results indicated that contamination
by petroleum hydrocarbons had occurred in both the former tank pit and dispenser
island areas. Limited over-excavation of both impacted areas was performed on June 9,
1999. Analytical results from the soil samples collected under the dispenser island area
following the over-excavation showed increasing levels of contamination to 8.5 feet
below surface grade (bsg). Over-excavation samples from the tank pit showed
decreasing levels of contamination with depth to nearly all non-detect with the exception
of sample T-3S@19', which had .579 parts per million (ppm) MtBE.
The report recommends that a site assessment be conducted to define the extent of
hydrocarbons in soil beneath the site. PHS/EHD concurs with this recommendation.
Please prepare a work plan to begin the investigation of the vertical and lateral extent of
the documented petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at this site and submit it to
PHS/EHD by April 14, 2000.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
%
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margar Lagono RHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Rusty Benkosky, SECOR
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
