Horton
Solid Waste Coordinator
FORWARD, INC.
Post Office Box 6336
Stockton, California 95206
Waste Characterization
Treated Bridee Lumber
Santa Fe Railway Company - Middle River Bridge
Dear Mr. Horton:
Pursuant to our various discussions, please find the attached Waste Characterization Form for
Creosote treated bridge lumber removed from Santa Fe Railway Company's Middle River Bridge.
As required by your waste characterization program for disposal of treated wood, we have
included laboratory analyses for fish bioassay, pentachlorophenols, creosols, metals, and
hydrocarbons. The results of the analyses are reported on the waste characterization form.
A review of the analyses indicates the treated lumber is not a hazardous waste and would be
acceptable for disposal at FORWARD, INC. The samples for analysis were collected on
October 29, 1992, and represent a composite of deck planking, piling, stringers, and caps.
t As information, we are transmitting a copy of this package under separate cover to Santa Fe. We
have also advised Santa Fe that FORWARD, INC.'s disposal rate for the bridge lumber is
$29.75 per ton or$35 per yard on a direct bill basis, and that the waste would be shipped on a
nonhazardous waste manifest to be provided by FORWARD,Inc. A representative of Santa Fe
will be in further contact with you, should your site be selected for disposal.
Should you have any questions, please give us a call.
Very y yours,
,-&Tassen
Vice President
TCL:rmm
Enclosures
cc: J.
