ENVIRCrAMENTAL SOLUTIO". INC.
I, November 3, 1992
f . Project No. 92-797
III" Mr. Jay Craft
General Supervisor Structures
Santa Fe Railway Company
740 East Carnegie Drive ^'1 ,d
San Bernardino,California 92408
Waste Characterization
Treated Bridge Lumber
Santa Fe Railway Company
Middle River Bridee
Dear Mr. Craft:
In accordance with our telephone discussion of October 28, 1992,Environmental Solutions, Inc.
has completed waste characterization activities for treated bridge lumber removed from Santa Fes
Middle River Bridge.
Activities completed included collection of samples from deck planking, piling, stringers, and
caps. Samples were composited as one sample and delivered to state certified laboratories for
analyses.
A copy of laboratory analyses for fish bioassay, pentachlorophenols, creosols, total metals,
soluble metals, fuel hydrocarbons, petroleum hydrocarbons, and BTEX has been attached. The
I • reported analyses support a nonhazardous waste determination for the treated lumber. Treated
f lumber is, however, required to be disposed at a Class 11 landfill.
A waste characterization package has been forwarded to FORWARD, INC., a Class II landfill in
Stockton,California. A copy of the package has been enclosed.
As information, FORWARD, INC. has quoted a unit price of$29.75 per ton or$35 per
cubic yard to accept the treated wood. Materials would be shipped on a nonhazardous bill of
lading to be provided by FORWARD, INC.
Should a different Class II landfill site be selected, the laboratory analyses enclosed can be used to
meet acceptance criteria of the alternate landfill.
Should you have any questions, please give us a call.
Very py yon,
'e"6'h
Lassen
Vice President
TCL:rmm
cc: M.
