Read the Material Safety Data Sheets. Your supervisor has a copy of the MSDSs for your department and you will
also find a copy in the shop break room.
The MSDS tells you what you're working with and what you can do to stay Safe,Healthy, and Legal.
Why Do We Need Hazard Communication
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA)has issued a new rule, the Hazard Communication
Standard, that will help your employer keep you safe and healthy. It says you have a"Right To Know"what hazards
you face on the job, and how to protect yourself against them.
In the past, there was no guarantee that workers would be told about the chemical hazards they might face on the job.
Container labels and warning sheets, even when they were provided, didn't always give enough information on
potential hazards, what to do in an emergency, or where to mm for help. That's why the federal government decided
to set a uniform hazard communication standard. Now everyone knows what information has to be provided to keep
you safe.
Star Building Systems Hazardous Star Building Systems Chemical Compressed Pressurized
Waste Inventory Containers
Acrylic Caulking Acrylic Caulking Argon (AR)
Antifreeze Antifreeze Argon—CO2 Mix
Lincoln 781 Flux Argon(AR) Carbon Dioxide(CO2)
Metal Dust Arklear 4063 Helium (HE)
Oily Debris Carbon Dioxide(CO2) Nitrogen(N2)
Waste Oil Diesel,Low Suffer H2 Oxygen (0)
Water Reduced Primer Helium(HE)
Hydraulic Oil
Isopar-L Foaming Fluid
Metal Dust
Nitrogen (N2)
Oxygen (0)
Propane
Regualr Unleaded Gasoline
Sodium Hypochlorite
Toluene,Silicon Dioxide
Water Reduced Primer
What is a Hazardous Waste?Hazardous waste falls into four categories.
I. Toxic: Poisonous.
Star Building Systems recognizes your important role in hazardous waste safety and requires that everyone who
works around hazardous waste be trained to understand and use:
1. General Hazardous Waste Regulations.
