Advanced Interconnect Technologies
Source Reduction Plan
Page 4
4.2. Aqueous hazardous waste generated at AIT is presented in the flow
diagram contained in Figure 2.
4.2.1. Pretreatment tanks (Degreaser, AI Etch, >12.5 Rinse Tank, and
Deoxidizer) — Disposal of the hazardous waste contained in these
tanks is pH adjusted with Caustic or Sulfuric acid prior to disposal
via a POTW permit.
4.2.2. Anodizing Tanks - Aqueous hazardous waste from the anodizing
tanks is first adjusted from a pH of — 1.8 to — 4.5, transferred to
the settling tank, and then treated with metal trapping polymers
which precipitate into a concentrated metal (Lead) sludge. The
decant aqueous waste is tested for lead concentration, passed
through a bag filter to remove large particulates, returned to the
equalization tank for final pH adjustment between 6-10, and
disposed via a POTW permit. Once fully contaminated, the bag
filters are placed into 55 gallon metal drums for off-site disposal.
The lead sludge is removed from the system via a filter press and
disposed off-site in 55 gallon metal drums. Any post filter press
residual aqueous waste is returned to the settling tank for
retreatment.
FIGURE 2. Aqueous Hazardous Waste Flow Diagram
