The estimated depth of the boring is 30 feet. Continuous soil samples will
be recovered using a 3-inch-diameter modified California sampler, equipped with 21/ inch-
diameter sampling tubes. Representative soil samples retained for laboratory analysis will be
selected based on field observations by both ENGEO and San Joaquin Environmental Health
Department personnel. Following recovery, the soil samples will be sealed with Teflon sheets, tape
and polyethylene end caps. The samples will be placed in a cooled ice chest for transportation to
the analytical laboratory under documented chain of custody.
Perimeter Boring-Ground-Water Sampling
The perimeter soil boring will be advanced down into the local unconfined aquifer. Once the
saturated zone has been encountered, the boring will be advanced an additional five feet below the
top of the ground-water table. ENGEO estimates the total depth of the boring will be in the range
of 40-50 feet below the ground surface. A temporary 2-inch-diameter PVC casing with a .010
slotted screen, will then be placed within the hollow stem auger to facilitate ground-water sampling.
The sample will be recovered using a disposable polyethylene bailer. The sample will then be
transferred into clean laboratory glassware, for transport to the analytical laboratory. A VOC travel
blank, provided by the analytical laboratory, will be included with the ground-water samples
throughout transport.
Laboratory Analysis
The soil and ground-water samples will be tested for the following compounds:
• Total Volatile and Extractable Hydrocarbons(EPA 8015)
• Total Recoverable Hydrocarbons(EPA 418.1)
• Organochlorine Pesticides(EPA 8080)
• Volatile Organics(EPA 8240)
• Title 22 Metals
Soil samples exhibiting pesticides, VOCs, or metals in excess of state STLC or federal TCLP
standards will be analyzed for soluble fractions. Laboratory services will be provided by American
Environmental Network(AEN)in Pleasant Hill, California(DOHS#1172).
