Carpenter Co. Position Description Position Title CLASS A DIESEL MECHANIC Exempt_Nonexempt_ Reports To: BRANCH MANAGER Date: Department: TRAFFIC/SHIPPING Approval: -------------- 40 I . Job Summary Maintain semi-tractors , straights trucks , and company cars in safe operating conditions . II . Position Scope Daily communication with Department Managers , maintenance personnel, and drivers . Must use safety sensitive equipment in performance of job. Major challenges include performing equipment repair within shipping schedule constraints . Work in all weather conditions . III . Requisites Education: Major duties and responsibilities of the job can be satisfactorily performed with a high school education plus six to twelve months ' university, community college, business, or trade school . Experience: One to two years ' experience required to perform the job. Minimum Qualifications : Able to drive a tractor-trailer combination a plus.. Pass the CDL tests . Special Skills : One year hands on training in all areas . IV. Responsibilities 1 . Service tractor per DOT and company requirements . 2 . Repair downed units as needed, to include major mechanical and electrical adjustments . 3 . Keep updated on new regulations per DOT handbooks and manuals . 4 . Fill out paperwork properly, to include daily maintenance logs . 5 . Overhaul all drivetrain components as needed. 6 . Follow all Carpenter Co. rules to include safety regulations , attendence, and conduct . 7 . Help maintain Value of Order. 8 . Report major mechanical failures that may effect the operation of the traffic department . ). Manage used motor oil&used oil filters to assure compliance with applicable hazardous waste requirements. Including drum preparation, labeling, and waste transfer operations.
