1. CRT glass contains lead, which is harmful if inhaled or
ingested.
a. Lead in the glass is only released when the glass is
broken and the dust is inhaled or ingested (while
eating, drinking, smoking, etc.).
b. Industry standards show that the amount of lead that
CRT workers are exposed to is not toxic, however,we
must be careful to sweep broken glass slowly to keep
airborne dust to a minimum and to avoid eating,
drinking and smoking while at working near CRT
glass.
2. Mercury may be found in some universal waste streams.
Mercury is harmful if inhaled, ingested or touched.
a. If there is a mercury spill notify your supervisor
immediately.
b. Do not attempt to sweep or vacuum up the mercury,
it may vaporize into the air and can then be inhaled.
c. If you have skin contact with mercury:
i. Wash the area with soap and water then seek
medical attention.
ii. Remove any clothing that came into contact
with the mercury.
iii.
