1.0 INFORMATION
This Health and Safety Plan (H & SP) describes basic safety requirements for the
cleanup of used sand from sandblasting operations at Tom Newhall Boat Repair
(TNBR), 8090 N. Rio Blanco Road, Stockton, California. The location of TNBR is shown
in Figure 1, and the work site is shown in Figure 2.
The provisions of the plan apply to the employees of TNBR, and its subcontractors
working on this project.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work for this phase of the project is described in the Work Plan prepared
by Environeering, Inc. (EI) on January 26, 2004, entitled Determination of the Extent of
Contamination From Used Sand From Sandblasting Boat Bottoms. In summary, the
field work shall include the completion of the following tasks:
1. Pick up, storing, sampling and disposing of used sand from sandblasting boat
bottoms, which had been spread on the ground in several small piles at the site,
generally as shown in Figure 2.
2. Sampling the underlying soil, and, if contamination is found, picking up, storing,
sampling and disposing of this soil.
3.0 GENERAL SAFE WORK PRACTICES
It is the company's safety policy to take every reasonable precaution in the performance
of work to protect the environment and the health and safety of employees and the
public, and to prevent property damage.
It is the intent if this H & S Plan to supply the broad outline for completing investigation
activities within these guidelines. It should be clearly understood that it may not be
possible to determine all actual working conditions in advance of the work. Therefore,
planning must allow the opportunity to provide a range of protection based upon actual
working conditions.
All project work shall be preformed in a manner consistent with providing a safe work
environment. A list of general safety guidelines which are applicable include:
Page 1
